The American Meat Institute is governed by a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee that receives recommendations and technical guidance from a number committees and advisory committees grouped under AMI’s Five Pillars: Regulatory Affairs, Legislative Affairs, Scientific Affairs, International Affairs and Public Affairs.
AMI General Members may serve on committees by submitting a request to the committee’s staff contact. Associate Supplier members may serve on most committees.
The Regulatory Affairs Committee covers a wide array of regulatory issues and seeks input from the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, Environmental Committee, Inspection Committee and the Worker Safety Advisory Committee.
The Legislative Affairs Committeemonitors issues before Congress and oversees the Institute’s efforts on Capitol Hill. It is advised by the Human Resources Advisory Committee.
The Scientific Affairs Committee is advised by the Health and Wellness Advisory Committee and monitors scientific and technical developments and health policies that may impact AMI member companies.
The International Trade Committee monitors imports and exports and the policies that may impact the free flow of trade.
The Public Affairs Committee oversees the industry’s proactive communication efforts and its response to developments in the public arena.
The Supplier Committee monitors issues of concern to companies that supply the industry with equipment, ingredients and services.
